I want to post a comment about this. My beliefs are hard to define, but I have studied many things. I do have to say though, I definitely do not believe in hellfire. At least, not as eternal torment for human beings. There are scriptures in Revelation that point to Satan and the beast being cast eternally into the lake of fire and sulfur. The same scriptures say that ALL others will be destroyed. It doesn't even exclude the demons from simple destruction. Not to mention the greek and hebrew words for hell, sheol, gehenna, hades, all translate literally into the common grave. If the bible is accurate than judgement for the wicked will be death. The scriptures say a man who is dead is conscious of nothing. I don't want to bash anyone's belief, but it is particularly frustrating to hear talk of hell. I believe it is a scare tactic. There is reason to love and know God, but being scared into it seems wrong. Where is the free will? Most depictions of hellfire originate with Dante's depiction. His play was titled the "Divine Comedy". It is a metaphoric book that illustrates the suffering we cause ourselves here. I just have a hard time believing that a creator who loves us, would put us here with every temptaion we could imagine, us being imperfect, give us a short life, and say that if we screw up we will forever burn. Then eternal life might sound ludacris, but that is for overcoming the odds. Repeatedly the bible illustrates that this is for the few.

Hell does not exist, it is a tool used by religion to rule threw fear.

". All things have meaning. If we cannot love God we should fear Him. For the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. " The entire story "God" is contradictory, first he says he loves all of us and that we have free will. However if we do not use that free will to believe in him and follow his ways then we are evil and wrong.....and he punishes us. "God" if he truly exists is Evil in his own right, He bares the beliefs of a Natzi, believe or be destroyed.

"Wars and disasters are not simply accidents" Wars are human and nothing more.

Disasters, Simply because we can't explain some thing does not make it Supernatural. People long ago would think we are using magic now with everything we have and would assume it some unnatural force simply because they don't understand.

I evolved to have a thinking mind and I use it. We have a purpose, we don't know what that purpose is and I doubt that people years and years ago could understand what that purpose is.

That was a wonderful story. And so true. Most people are so wrapped up in their own thoughts and don't speak to each other. But yet, when someone does say "hello" to them, it makes them happy and they say "hello" back. Something so simple and also so necessary. That woman in the subway might very well have been an angel. Even if she wasn't, her message has travelled to this story and continues on to everyone who reads it.

No I don't think that the devil has hooves and horns. Why should I?
Still I think there is real evil. Look at Rwanda, Cambodia or the Shoah. Yes we are capable of evil orselves. But this does not preclude a devil/devils. Its quite scriptural.

At the end of the day its a matter of faith. Still I think if you you remove the reality of God and Satan you're kinda left with a senseless, tasteless grey inexplicable goo.

I agree with Jomoh- the idea that there is a dichotomy, evil vs good is an inheritance from the enlightenment and the greeks. It is quite simplistic- if you look around the world where we live today there aren't these extremes where Evil reigns and Goodness reigns- it's more complex, shades of grey. Well that's what I think-

But I hope that whatever the "Devil" represents in your dreams dies or is conquered buddy for the sake of more restful peaceful sleep.

evil isn't a force that lurks somewhere out there -it's part of your self, as is good. The struggle is within, not without. BUT if it makes you feel better you might as well hold on to your fire and brimstone

I had a fight with Devil once in a dream, it was a proper fight, you know fisticuffs, I was up out of bed and hit him with a punch that came straight from hell so he new all about it, the only thing was my fist connected with a wardrobe door that ended up on top of my wife with a huge dent in it, frightened the living daylights out of her but to me it was real and the punch had flattened the Devil good and proper, talk about exorcising your demons, anyway that's my only claim to fame, that I once flattened the Devil, good and proper, but only in a dream.

I just wanted to reassure you that I spend many nights a week with people going to a 12 step program who pray to a higher power and have tremendous healings as a result-some are athiest, some catholic, jewish, etc. Step Three of the program is: MAde a decision to turn our will and oul lives over to the care of God as we understood him. For those who didn't believe in God, most of the time I see that they use the power of our group as their higher power and very often this leads them to their connection.
Really interesting to read your blog.
